LKQ is one of the largest players in automotive parts in Europe, targeting both private customers and professional bodyshops in the UK and the rest of Europe. Those who sell at that scale cannot afford a platform that stands still with every improvement. That is precisely why LKQ chose commercetools as a **composable foundation**, and knocked on the door of competence center **supersonic** to let that foundation grow in a targeted way with concrete business needs.

## The challenge: growth without brakes

With a platform on the scale of LKQ, several development processes are constantly running side by side. Each process has its own lead time, impact and risk, and they all need to be kept under control if you want to **continue to run** operationally efficiently.

Three challenges weighed most heavily. Firstly, LKQ's range is so extensive that customers did not always find the right part for their vehicle, resulting in missed sales and wrong orders. Customers needed guidance through their **entire search** to find the right product faster. In addition, LKQ works with promotions based on **cart-level discounts**, but the platform did not show those discounts by default while viewing products. The result: offers that customers simply never saw. Finally, **page speed** and ease of use remained a constant concern, every second of delay during the purchase process erodes customer trust.

Each of these challenges required its **own, independent solution**, developed and rolled out at its own pace, even if the calendar left little space, such as in the run-up to Black Friday.

## The solution: expand instead of rebuild

LKQ and supersonic chose to tackle each improvement separately as a **composable extension** on top of commercetools, rather than collecting everything into a single release.

For the findability problem, a guided **selection tool** was introduced: it guides customers step by step to the right service part, instead of letting them search through an overwhelming assortment. For the invisible promotions, **cart discounts** were translated into visible signals, directly on the product page and in the shopping cart. Customers now see the discount before they have to search for it themselves. In addition, **performance and UX improvements** were made throughout the platform , from faster page loads to more efficient handling of technical processes in the background.

The most important thing here is not the list of functionalities, but how they were built: each extension developed, tested and launched separately, without putting the core platform at risk. That is also where Xplore Group's added value extends beyond technology alone: it is about the strategic choice of which improvement is rolled out and when, so that growth and stability do not get in each other's way.

## The result: noticeable on the platform, measurable in the numbers

The improvements were felt across the platform: the **page speed** improved noticeably and the site became **more accessible** to a wider group of customers.

The collaboration also showed results commercially: **order volume, order value and average order value** grew steadily throughout the process.

What connects those results is that each functionality served the same purpose: to make the customer journey simpler and clearer. Customers were shown promotions the moment it counted, found the right part faster and experienced a platform that kept improving – not through one big innovation, but **step by step**.
